Auckland to Bluff 1959 part 1

Ivan Gardiner:

Unfortunately my photographic record is not as good as others as I had only my brother’s camera which took 127 roll film and I was very new to photography. But we were not setting out to make history – it was just our summer holiday.

We left from Auckland – obviously, but I really can’t remember anything of the occasion. We travelled South via great South Road, and that’s all a blur too. Don’t even remember the intermediate stops between Auckland and Wellington, except I have a photo of John McKillop mending a puncture on the Maicoletta and I think that was on the Desert Road, though it does look a bit narrow.
